As a registered as a 501c3 (non-profit) organization, Cora Voce's purpose is "to share and promote the highest quality of choral music, to make contributions to support local youth choral programs, and to provide music scholarships for deserving students." In the past we have contributed to the Maurice and Patricia Skones Scholarship fund at Pacific Lutheran University (60% of our members are alumni of PLU.) This past fall we gave a $500 scholarship to a student intern from Gig Harbor High School who will be attending PLU next fall. We plan to award similar scholarships each time we have a student intern singing with our group.
Last year at our annual fundraising event, Teatro Cora Voce, we raised over $5,000. Because of donor generosity, we were able to fully fund the production of our first CD, hire Carrotstick Marketing to help us with marketing, and fund our student scholarship program.
This year, our Teatro Cora Voce fundraising goal is $10,000. Our plan is to use these funds to hire a small orchestra to accompany the choir in our most ambitious performance to date, Richard Nance's Mass for a New Millenium. We also plan to expand our outreach to youth choral programs and to provide even more funding for vocal music scholarships.
