About Cora Voce
Who are we? What makes us unique? Members of Cora Voce assemble from the Seattle-Tacoma area and all over the country for only five rehearsals the week of each performance – a total of just twelve hours – prior to each concert. (By comparison, most community and semi-professional choirs meet for twenty-five to forty hours of rehearsal prior to each concert.) This compressed rehearsal schedule requires exceptional choral performance skills of our members. We also use our concerts as a vehicle for raising funds to help support choral and vocal scholarship programs, such as the Maurice and Patricia Skones Vocal Scholarship at Pacific Lutheran University. Cora Voce performances, under the direction of artistic director, Randy Spitzer are a dramatic blend of narration and music.
Where do we sing? Our home concert venue on Saturday evenings is the historic First Lutheran Church located near Wright Park in Tacoma at 524 South “I” Street. Our Sunday matinee performances are offered at other sponsoring churches in the Seattle-Tacoma area.
How long have we been performing? Cora Voce (Chorus of Voices) was founded in 2003 under the name Northwest Lutheran Choir as a not-for-profit (501c3) corporation. In 2005 the choir changed its name to Cora Voce.
Who do we serve? Cora Voce serves four main stakeholders: 1) singer-musicians who seek a high-quality performance experience, but who prefer a limited rehearsal schedule, 2) an audience made up of people from a variety of spiritual orientations who want to hear high-quality choral music, 3) organizations and individuals who support choral music, and 4) choral and vocal scholarships and programs that we support financially.
